100 Women in Hedge Funds Selects HKMA’s Clara Chan for its 2016 Asia Industry Leadership Award

Hong Kong, October 5, 2016 - 100 Women in Hedge Funds (‘100WHF’) today announces that Ms. Clara Chan, Head of Direct Investment at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (‘HKMA’), will receive this year’s Asia Industry Leadership Award at the 100WHF Hong Kong Gala on November 16, 2016. 

Gala Co-Chair Charlotte Plowman stated, “100WHF is delighted to acknowledge Clara’s leadership and stature in, as well as her contribution to the alternative investments industry. We are thrilled to celebrate her achievements at our 2016 Gala dinner.”  

Ms. Plowman’s colleague and Co-Chair Charlotte Stopford Sackville added, “This award calls attention to the senior women in our industry who, by virtue of their important roles, stand apart for their leadership, authority and accountabilities. This couldn’t be more true of Clara.  She is a unique leader with her versatility and breadth of knowledge, ideas and network.  With her talents and passion, she helps define the industry’s standard of excellence.  Her dedication to bring best practice to the industry on investment, governance and risk management has earned her the respect from peers around the globe.  Her grace and grit have also been a motivating inspiration to many, especially women, in the industry.”

As the Head of Direct Investment in the HKMA, Clara is a key member of the HKMA’s Reserves Management Department and heads up the Long Term Growth Portfolio team investing in asset classes including private equity, private credit, real estate and infrastructure.  She is a qualified barrister.  Prior to joining the HKMA, she served as an Administrative Officer in the Hong Kong SAR Government and had worked in different policy bureaux and departments with responsibilities for policy formulation, market development, regulatory issues, and administration. 

2016 North American and European Industry Leadership Awards honorees are Sandra A. Urie, Chairman Emeritus of Cambridge Associates, and Alexandra Jung, Partner and Co-Head of European Investments at Oak Hill Advisors L.P.  Last year’s Asia Industry Leadership Award recipient was Hua Fan, CIC’s Head of Asset Allocation.   

100WHF is a global, practitioner-driven non-profit organization serving over 15,000 alternative investment management investors and finance professionals in 20 locations through educational, professional leverage and philanthropic initiatives. Formed in 2001, 100WHF has hosted more than 600 industry education events globally, connected more than 400 senior women through Peer Advisory Groups and raised over $38 million gross for philanthropic causes in the areas of women's and family health, education and mentoring. This year’s global philanthropic theme is mentoring.

The 100WHF Hong Kong Gala dinner is fully subscribed and will be held at The China Club on November 16, 2016.  The event beneficiary is The Hong Kong Women’s Foundation with funds designated for their mentoring programs for Hong Kong youth.
