100 Women in Hedge Funds Announces Ten Members Named as 100WHF CAIA Scholarship Recipients

July 1, 2016

NEW YORK, NY (July 1, 2016) – 100 Women in Hedge Funds (100WHF), a global, practitioner-driven non-profit organization serving more than 13,000 alternative investment management investors and professionals through educational, professional leverage and philanthropic initiatives, today announced its ten members named as recipients of the 2016 100WHF/CAIA Scholarships.

The 100WHF/CAIA scholarship program is designed to provide qualified and talented women in the alternative investment space with access to the CAIA Charter, a highly sought after mark of achievement in the field and a designation that can only be earned by passing a rigorous two-part exam. The scholarship program was established in 2011 by 100WHF and is underwritten by Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company, LLC (PAAMCO). The program is open exclusively to women with an interest in pursuing a career in alternative investment management, with a specific focus on portfolio management.

Each scholarship recipient is a woman who has achieved advanced levels of success in various financial fields and has expressed strong interest in furthering her career by obtaining the CAIA Charter. The CAIA Association, which oversees the CAIA Foundation, offers the only educational program uniquely designed for individuals specializing in alternative investments.

Sonia Gardner, Chair of the 100WHF Board and President, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Avenue Capital Group, said, “The ten women named as 2016 100WHF/CAIA scholars embody our organization's mission of providing our global membership with exceptional educational programming and professional development opportunities. These leading female professionals represent diverse disciplines within the alternative investment sector and will offer enhanced insights and services to their clients and colleagues in the global investor community. We congratulate the recipients of this competitive scholarship program as they invest in their careers by obtaining the prestigious CAIA designation, and would like to thank the CAIA Foundation and PAAMCO for their support.”

“As CAIA has continued to expand its presence around the globe, so too has the global nature of our scholarship recipients,” said Jane Buchan, Ph.D., CAIA, Chief Executive Officer with PAAMCO and Chairman of the Board of CAIA. “Ambitious professionals from not only the U.S. but also Switzerland, Mexico, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom are all part of this year’s group of very worthy recipients. We’re very happy to congratulate each of them on this honor and look forward to all that they will accomplish in the future.”

Combined with relevant professional experience and association membership, the CAIA Charter is the global benchmark for alternative investment education. In order to obtain the CAIA Charter, candidates must complete a rigorous, self-directed education program that develops and promotes deep knowledge and expertise in alternative investing. Candidates who participate in the program are granted the CAIA Charter upon successful completion of two levels of qualifying exams.

The scholarship covers enrollment and registration fees for CAIA Level I and Level II exams, associated CAIA textbooks and the CAIA Association membership fee for the first year. Additionally, all scholarship recipients receive complimentary test preparation materials, courtesy of Kaplan and UpperMark, whose CEO Pady Jalali is a member of both CAIA and 100WHF.
